More disturbing information has come out about the religious beliefs of M. Kaleo Manuel, the Hawaiian official said to be single-handedly responsible for refusing to release much-needed “revered” water to help fight the raging fires in Maui that pretty much destroyed the city of Lahaina.
It turns out that Manuel is a deranged climate cultist whose bizarre beliefs about water being a type of “god” caused him to withhold its quenching power from those in need in Lahaina, resulting in 111 deaths so far and counting.
“The commission is responsible, per our authorizing statute, to protect and manage all water resources in the state,” an obnoxiously-voiced Manuel is seen stating in the below video:
Meet M. Kaleo Manuel, the official who refused to release water in Maui, contributing to up to 106 deaths.
A Hawaiian Studies major, Kaleo prefers a traditional, holistic “One Water” approach where water is revered, not used.

“One Water is like taking it, looking at it from a holistic system perspective – and that’s not any different than how Hawaiians traditionally managed water. In essence, we treated, Native Hawaiians treated water as one of the earthly manifestations of a god, Ka-Wai-a-ke-Akua. So that reverence for a resource, and that reciprocity in relationship, was something that was really, really important.”

A cultural practitioner and deputy director for state water resource management, Manuel “initially balked” when desperate landowners pleaded with him to send water “to help protect their property from fires.”
“The water standoff played out over much of the day and the water didn’t come until too late,” reported the Honolulu Civil Beat about how Manuel basically committed murder by refusing to release the water.
The only way Manuel was going to agree to release the water, according to several sources connected to the Civil Beat, is if West Maui landowners got “permission from a taro, or kalo, farm located downstream from the company’s property.”
“Manuel eventually released water but not until after the fire had spread,” reported Headline USA. “It was not clear on Monday how much damage the fire did in the interim or whether homes were damaged.”
When the Civil Beat reached out to Manuel for an interview following the dispute and disaster, he refused.
Hawaii Gov. Josh Green later stated publicly about the matter that “people need to understand, especially those from far away, that there’s been a great deal of water conflict on Maui for many years.”
“It’s important that we’re honest about this,” Green added. “People have been fighting against the release of water to fight fires. I’ll leave that to you to explore.”
Manuel, meanwhile, has stated in the past concerning water on Maui that there needs to be “true conversations about equity,” the word “equity” usually being code for depriving some kind of resource from “white” people and giving it to “non-white” people instead.
In this case, it seems as though Manuel was more concerned with appeasing the traditional Hawaiian water god of Ka-Wai-a-ke-Akua than with protecting the people who pay his salary. What ever happened to separation of church and state?
“Doesn’t that make him in large part responsible for the deaths?” asked Elon Musk, echoing what many are now thinking about Manuel’s complicity in the mounting Lahaina death and destruction toll.
